    Josiah Thayer (born Mendon, Massachusetts, 14 January 1669/70; died Mendon, 27 February 1727; son of Ferdinando Thayer and Huldah Hayward). Married Sarah Bass 7 January 1689/90 in Mendon, Suffolk, Massachusetts. She was born 28 October 1673 in Mendon. Died before 6 June 1719 in Mendon.

    Thomas was born about 1599. In a deposition given in 1659, the clerk reported that he was about 60 years old [SPR 1:333]. Smith and Sanborn point out that this age is "not precisely stated, "as the clerk recorded round numbers for both deponents. ↑ (Smith, Dean Crawford and Melinde Lutz Sanborn, The Ancestry of Eva Belle Kempton, 1878-1908. (Part 1, Pages 493-506) Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1996)

    Residence in England and ship on which he immigrated is unknown. Assumed to have immigrated about 1635 based on his admission as a Freeman of Massachusetts Bay Colony 3 March 1635/36, he having been a previous resident of Weymouth and a member of the church there. In an (unrecorded) 1678 deed to Samuel White, he was said to be a carpenter. He owned books and signed his own will and other documents, so he is thought to have been educated.
