Arrive in Boston. Check into hotel.

7:00 pm - Meet and Greet with refreshments at hotel, for all tour members.

8:00 am Travel to Plimoth Plantation: 137 Warren Avenue, Plymouth, MA 02360

9:30 am– Tour Plimoth Plantation

12:30 pm - Travel to Plymouth

12:45 pm -Buy lunch in Plymouth. 

1:45 pm – Meet at town square. Walk down Leyden Street to Plymouth Rock.

2:30 - Travel to Nook Road between Sandwich St. (3A) and Weston St. - the property of ancestors Stephen Tracy and Tryphosa Lee Tracy. If there is time, visit.  

4:00 pm - Travel to the National Monument to the Forefathers, 71 Allerton St. formerly known as the Pilgrim Monument, for a group picture.

4:30 pm - Travel to Duxbury

  • Travel to Bay Farm – 100 Parks St, Duxbury, MA 02332 (Loring St.) Stephen and Tryphosa Tracy’s property
  • Travel to George Partridge’s 30 acres “at the head of Mr. Hicks land.” Intersection of Park St. and Tremont St.
  • Travel to George Partridge’s 40 acres south of Tremont St. between Old Mill Lane and White Pine Ln. Look for a dragon statue to identify property. 
  • Travel to Crooker Memorial Park. Turn Left on Elm St, right on Tobey Garden St., stop at Crooker Memorial Park at Tobey Garden St. and Old Toby Garden St.  which is on or close to the George Partridge Property on the banks of Island Creek Pond. 15-minute stop at the park.

6:30 pm - Have dinner in Duxbury

7:30 – Travel to Myles Standish Burial Ground Chestnut St at Pilgrim Byway, Duxbury- where Tryphosa Lee Tracy and the Partridges are probably buried. 15-minute stop at cemetery.

7:42 Sunset.

7:45 - Travel to Powder Point- Go East on Chestnut St., turn left on Washington St., right on Powder Point Ave., right on King Caesar Rd., left on Russell Road. Stop briefly.

  • George Partridge’s 5 acre grant on “Batchelor’s Row,” Powder Point. was on both sides of Russell Road beginning at King Caesar Rd. and continuing about two thirds of the way to Powder Point Ave. 

Return to hotel. Continue on Russell Road, turn left on Powder Point Ave./Cedar St/St. George St.. Go north on 3A. Stop briefly before the bridge over the North River.

  • Stephen Tracy’s and George Partridge’s property at North River, north of Marshfield Hills, between Union St and 3A.

9:00 am - Travel to Boston via Washington St. to the east side of Washington Street at Downtown Crossing, between Summer St and Franklin St. - the site of the fabric shop of ancestors Nathaniel and Elizabeth Wight Heaton, now occupied by the Millennial Tower. 14 min drive. 15 minute stop at Downtown Crossing.

9:30 am - Travel to the northwest corner of Tremont and Boylston Streets in Boston. 10 minute drive.

9:30 am – Bus to *Boston Public Garden Swan Boats - Charles St. between Boylston St and Beacon St. Drop off passengers.

10:30 am – Pick up tour group at Charles St. Travel to Boston Common Visitors’ Center – Tremont and West Street. Drop off tour group.

9:10 Travel to Bell Rock Cemetery where ancestor Joseph Hills Jr is buried. – Medford St. and Green St. 30 Min stop at the cemetery.

9:40 am Travel to Lexington.

3:45 pm – Pick up tour members at Old North Bridge Visitor’s Center, 174 Liberty St, Concord, MA. Travel back along Lexinton Rd.

4:00 Travel to Meriam’s Corner, terminus of the Battle Road trail and place where British regulars first came under fire as they retreated to Boston.

Continue to travel along Lexington Rd/ N. Great Rd. to the sites along the Battle Road. Stop briefly at:

  • Olive Stow House
  • Job Brooks House

4:30 Stop at Old Bedford Road. – Those who wish to do so may walk the battle trail to Bloody Angle and then past Hartwell Tavern, Hartwell House Site, Cpt William Smith House 1.4 miles – 30 minutes.

4:45 - Stop at parking area at N. Great Rd and Bradford Lane. – Those who wish to do so may walk this segment of the battle trail.

6:00 Pick up all walkers at parking area for Paul Revere Capture Site. 250 N Great Rd, Concord, MA 01742

Continue to travel along Lexington Rd/ N. Great Rd. to the other sites along the Battle Road. Stop briefly at:

8:45 am Travel to the site of the property of ancestors John and Elinor Whitney, and their son, Jonathan, at Mt. Auburn Street and Common Street.

  • Travel to Whitney Hill Park. Marshall St and Oliver St. (Very steep road.)
  • Travel to the Lewis and Anne Jones property at the Northwest corner of Belmont and Grove Streets in Belmont.
  • Travel to the Old Burying Place on Mt. Auburn St. and Arlington St., where the Whitneys and Joneses are buried. Find Anne Jones headstone.

11:00 – Travel to Cambridge

  • Visit Winthrop Square: site of the original marketplace in Newtowne/Cambridge. Mt Auburn St and John F. Kennedy St. Buy lunch.

12:00 Visit ancestors William and Mary Jarred Mann's property at the corner of Sparks and Huron streets. 15-minute stop.

  • Drive past Cambridge Common on Garden St. William Mann had a house site “on the common.”
  • Visit the Old Burying Ground where the Manns are probably buried. Garden St. and Massachusetts Ave. Parking around the corner on Church St.
  • Cambridge First Parish Church 1446 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02138
  • Walk to Harvard Yard – where Samuel Mann attended college


2:45 - Travel to 105 Brattle St. – 3:00 Tour of the Vassall-Craigie House - - which was George Washington's headquarters, and later became the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow House. (Tour needs to be confirmed - (617) 876-4491 – Garrett Cloer.)

4:30 pm – Travel to Franklin.

  • Travel to Michael Metcalf's property East St. and Autumn Ln./Puritan Ln. and learn about the Metcalfs.

10:00 am Visit Jonathan Fairbanks and Grace Smith home - 511 East St, Dedham, MA 02026, at the corner of East Street and Eastern Avenue in Dedham - the oldest timber frame home in the US.

11:30 am Bus to Dedham Historical Society 612 High St., Dedham, MA 02026 to see the Metcalf Great Chair (1652) and chest.  

12:00 – Buy lunch in Dedham.

12:30 - Travel to Village Ave. Cemetery, Village Ave. and Bullard St.  Eat while visiting family graves, or while traveling.

If there is time, stop briefly at First Church Dedham/Allin Congregational Church 670 High St, Dedham, MA

If there is time, drive to Highland Cemetery, 40-56 Dedham St, Dover, MA 02030 to see the grave of Esther Mann Fisher (1696-1770)

1:15 Travel Rte. 109 to Medfield 

  • Note Peak House north of the intersection of Main St and Pound St.

  • John Partridge (1619-1706) and Magdalene Bullard (abt 1635-1676) Main St. and North St. “John and William Partridge took up their house lots in Medfield in "The bachelors Roe," now North Street (Medfield Records). Their places were near together, and one of their neighbors in the same street was Thomas Mason, who married Margery Partridge, April 23, 1653. This is the first marriage recorded in Medfield.” (Tilden's Hist. of Medfield.

  • Briefly visit John and Joan Ellis homestead of “10 acres and one rood,” (later owned by Thomas Upham) on Main Street and Upham St. 519 Main St; Medfield, Massachusetts

  • If there is time, drive through the Medfield Rhodendron Reservation. Go left on Spring St., right on South St., right on Hoonhill Rd., right on Causeway St., left on Main St.

 

2:15 Visit the Vine Lake Cemetery Main St. or North Meadow Rd and Dale St.

2:45 - Travel Rt 109 through Millis (originally part of Medfield)

  • Visit the John Partridge House at 315 Exchange Street in Millis
  • If there is time, visit South End Pond, Orchard St.– North side of pond was site of the Fairbanks fortress that withstood the attack at Medfield/Millis/Medway in King Philips War.

3:30 - Travel Rt 109 to Medway (Main St to 126/Hartford Ave.)

  • Stop at the Evergreen Cemetery on Cottage St and Evergreen St. in West Medway where John Partridge and Magdalene Bullard Partridge are buried.
  • Stop briefly at Mechanic St and Oak St, site of the Partridge family farm
  • Joseph Ellis born in Medfield/Medway (1691), died Medway (1757); married Elizabeth Partridge (born Medfield, died Medway (1717/18)

  • Joseph Ellis born in Medway (1717/18), died in Franklin (1807), only son of Joseph Ellis and Elizabeth Partridge, Father of Esther Ellis.

4:00 Travel through Partridgetown (North Bellingham): Rt 126 to Farm Street, to Hartford Ave./Rt 126.

  • named for Eleazer Partridge and family.
  • Eleazar Partridge inherited his father's homestead in Medfield/Medway, MA and resided there until about 1720, when he purchased for 26 pounds a tract of land in North Bellingham, MA: 102 acres of "wildland" in Rawson'sFarm, 1/ 2 of 740 acres and other tracts, all from Thomas Sanford, with the buildings, and removed there. For a century and a half, this area was known as Partridgetown. Partridgetown was a part of the valley of Stall Brook on Farm Street, including the town farm and three others. Farm Street ran from Caryville by the town farm to Hartford Ave. again.

4:00 - Travel to Mendon– (Hartford Ave., right on Neck Hill Rd., left on George St. to Main St.) Stop at old cemetery at intersection of George St. and Main St. Possible burial place of Ferdinando Thayer, “whose property was on Providence St, a little south of the town center.”

The Thayers were from Mendon.  (Ezekiel Johnson (1750-1808), probable biological father of our Ezekiel (1773-1848) was the son of Susannah Thayer)

  • Susannah was the daughter of Isaac Thayer Jr. (son of Isaac Thayer and Mercy Rockwood); born Mendon, 1695; died Mendon, 1754) and Miriam Thayer (daughter of Josiah Thayer and Sarah Bass); born Mendon, 1699; died Mendon, before 1750/1)
  • Isaac Thayer (born Mendon, 1663/64, son of Ferdinando Thayer and Huldah Hayward) married Mercy Rockwood (died Mendon, 1700) in Mendon (1691)
  • Josiah Thayer (born Mendon, 1669/70; died Mendon, 1727/28; son of Ferdinando Thayer and Huldah Hayward). Married Sarah Bass, born Mendon, 1673 – died Mendon bef. 1719).
  • Ferdinando Thayer (died Mendon, 1713) married Huldah Hayward (died Mendon, 1690) in Braintree
  • Capt. Joseph White (died Mendon, 1705/6) married Lydia Rogers (died Mendon, 1727), parents of Experience White (born Mendon, 1680) who was Bethiah Garnsey’s great-grandmother.

  • See Samuel Mann’s grave and that of his wife, Esther Ware.
    • Graves of Samuel and Esther Mann in Section F of the Old Cemetery back of Church. Graves of many other ancestors are in that same cemetery.
  • Read his marriage advice to his children.
  • Find Margaret Fisher Hill’s gravestone.
  • Find graves of Samuel Fisher, Meletiah Snow Fisher.


11:45 - If there is time, travel to West Wrentham Cemetery West Street and Williams St.


12:15 - Travel to Franklin. Joseph Hills and Esther Ellis (Julia’s parents) were married in Franklin.

  • Stop at site of Capt. Joseph Hills (1730-1815) house at 801 Summer Street. GPS 42.059257 by 71.384222.
    • Capt. Joseph was the younger brother of Jabez Hills Jr, and therefore, the uncle of Julia’s father, who was named for him. We believe that Julia’s father grew up here after the death of his mother.


12:45 - Travel to Uncas Pond, 51 Florence St, Franklin, MA 02038. Across the pond to the south is the location where Jabez Hills Sr. (1727-1768) and Martha Metcalf Hills built their house. Eat lunch by Franklin Rod and Gun Club. (Arrange permission at franklinrodandgun.org or (508) 528-2573.)
